It takes more than a carabiner to climb a mountain, but what does it take to kidnap a person? A Lonely Place to Die is not exactly a horror picture. It’s a crossover genre piece that’s a little bit of action, a little bit of suspense and a whole lotta thriller. On Dead Air this week, Shawn Savage and our host Jeff Konopka explore this nontraditional work of tension. Both Jeff and Shawn had good vibes about this one. One thing is for certain, our feature piece isn’t any of that Stallone mountain climbing B.S. This movie is for real mountain climbers, real thrill ride addicts.
While I have not perused this film as of yet, I can safely say that Shawn and Jeff only talk about movies this fondly when they believe in them; when they passionately want you to see them. It’s not a gorefest. It’s not a campy monster movie. Even horror fans need to push the envelope every once in awhile.
Here are the news topics for the week and discussion of what the guys have been watching. I assure you this one gets heated more than once.-They guys discuss Goon (yet another non-horror flick). Sean William Scott transcends his Stiffler image. Goon makes for a damn fine sports film. -Shawn got creeped out by Intruders (as did I). Make sure to watch the theaters for its limited theatrical run out now. -The guys discuss Battle Royale and it’s sequel. Guess why? I’ll give you a hint: Midnight Snack/Monopoly/Life/Sorry as well as its US release (finally) -Apparently Jeff has been watching Passenger 57 starring Wesley Snipes which spawned a rather in depth discussion of Wesley’s career. Very random but also educational. -Jeff has been catching up on the Walking Dead Season 2 and has avoided the spoilers that plagued social networking sites all last month. We wish him luck in his spoiler free endeavor. -Jeff has also been playing the video game Uncharted. -So which Jurassic Park had the talking Dino? -A discussion of the REC3 release yields a passionate rant about the decision to release films on DVD rather than Blu Ray which segues into a discussion about VOD and rip off pricing that can accompany films that haven’t made it to video yet. Take a side people. -4:44 Last Day on Earth is an IFC release (it was thought to potentially be a Magnet release) -The guys weigh in on The Hunger Games vs. Battle Royale debate. Let us know when you first heard about Battle Royale. -Get ready for Megashark vs. Mechashark. Godzilla would be proud. -Dr. Dre is making a new horror film called Thaw. Hopefully it has nothing to do with Easy E.
That about sums up the discussion followed by the in depth discussion of a A Lonely Place to Die as previously mentioned Special apologies to Shawn Savage’s mother for Shawn’s over indulgence in using the “F” word. Shawn has been given a bar of fresh Ivory soap and will have to sit through 11:11:11 whilst holding it in his mouth. We hope this is a satisfactory punishment for his indiscretion.
