John Carpenter Retro: Ep 23 – The Ward, The Anti-Carpenter!!!

The Ward is not a John Carpenter movie in the sense that it has very little of his typical finger prints on it. You won’t find a big synth based JC score (he’s getting too old in his own words). You won’t find a showdown at the O.K. Corral. There are no JC favorite actors from past cinematic endeavors gracing the screen with even so much as a cameo. Let’s face it, John Carpenter put his name on it so we know that he believes it to be his movie, but I’m blaming everything from aliens to inter-dimensional travelers for the crap fest that is The Ward. In this episode of the John Carpenter Retrospective Series (the last episode focusing on an individual movie), Jeff and I discuss the heartbreak that is John Carpenter’s most recent effort. Jeff had tackled this entry early on in the podcast’s life and was forced to bare it again, reliving it in Blu-ray as if a reoccurring nightmare from beyond his psyche. Woe is he who inserts The Ward into their video playing device.

Haven’t seen The Ward? You’re missing NOTHING. Want to listen in to find out what we REALLY think about The Ward? This would be a good time. As a note, you can actually check it out on Netflix streaming right now as well. Maybe that will help to lighten the mental burden after you watch it and aren’t forced to make an additional monetary commitment.

Remember, there are definitely spoilers. No plot will be spared. Either watch the movie before you listen to the podcast or listen to the podcast and avoid the suffering that might happen if you should actually watch the movie.

About Jimmy Terror

Dr. Jimmy Terror, more commonly known as James P. Harris, has been “writing your eyes” shut since 2010 with his horror themed blog, Dr. Terror’s Blog of Horrors (whose name is a play on words derived from the Amicus film, Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors). In the early 2000’s he fronted the band The Vaudeville Vampires, a short-lived "Horrorabilly" band which saw the creation of a catalog of horror related songs before disbanding (with only one, six song demo ever being produced and distributed). He has had only one on screen appearance to date in the horror short, Ocean Parkway, as maniacal, gloved killer with a hair fetish. Having done some un-credited, behind the scenes work in some low budget genre pictures, he is currently working on his first foray into screenwriting with a demonic, retro gore entry that pays homage to Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento as well as other Italian masters of the genre.
