Dead Air: Episode 25 – The Best Horror and Genre Films of 2012

Welcome a special episode of Dead Air – the official podcast of The Liberal Dead! This week, your host Jeff Konopka is joined by Shawn Savage (Editor In Chief at The Liberal Dead), James Harris (of Dr. Terror’s Blog of Horrors), and Kristy Jett (of Fright-Rags and HorrorHound Magazine) to countdown the Best Horror & Genre Films of 2012! This is an all out lovefest for genre films of the past year. Ask me how we talk for three and half hours about one thing. Just ask me. Well, I’ll tell you that when you get the four of us together it’s like one collectively amusing dick and/or fart joke that belongs in the Encyclopedia Britannica defining that very thing. Some times this podcast will sound like a gang bang of horror love, and yet others will sound like a tag team wrestling match with Jeff Konopka playing Jerry Lawler, Kristy Jett playing the Ted DiBiase, Shawn Savage playing Jimmy Hart and Jimmy Terror playing Andre the Giant (anybody wanna peanut?). Listen to the whole damn thing from the head to the tail. Let us know what your favorites are below and please join the discussion.

First, the crew revels the results of our Best-Of 2012 survey. Find out the Top 10 Genre Films, as chosen by the readers of The Liberal Dead and the listeners of this podcast. There’s some definite surprises here. Enjoy the smooth sultry sound of Shawn Savage’s voice, the authoritative and also sultry sound of Kristy Jett’s voice, the calm, cool and collected sound of Jeff Konopka’s fever-dream voice and Jimmy TERROR whose impression of Buffalo Bill doesn’t sound nearly as good as he thinks it does..
Next up is the main event: A discussion of the best Genre Films of 2012. Each participant picked their Top 10 films; along with some honorable mentions. Those picks were then ranked and compiled into a master list. What was the best of the best according to the Dead Air Podcast crew? Listen to find out!
Finally, rounding out the discussion, everyone talks a little bit about what they are looking forward to in 2013.
This is one episode you don’t want to miss! You may Download the MP3 here orSubscribe Via iTunes. iTunes listeners: Please take a moment to leave us a rating/review, and we will share it on an upcoming podcast!
Dead Air will return next week with a review of the most recent Genre film in theaters, Director Jonathan Levine’s Warm Bodies.

Also, keep your eyes peeled for the return of Dead Already – our Unofficial Walking Dead podcast – as well as a new retrospective series on the Candyman films!

About Jimmy Terror

Dr. Jimmy Terror, more commonly known as James P. Harris, has been “writing your eyes” shut since 2010 with his horror themed blog, Dr. Terror’s Blog of Horrors (whose name is a play on words derived from the Amicus film, Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors). In the early 2000’s he fronted the band The Vaudeville Vampires, a short-lived "Horrorabilly" band which saw the creation of a catalog of horror related songs before disbanding (with only one, six song demo ever being produced and distributed). He has had only one on screen appearance to date in the horror short, Ocean Parkway, as maniacal, gloved killer with a hair fetish. Having done some un-credited, behind the scenes work in some low budget genre pictures, he is currently working on his first foray into screenwriting with a demonic, retro gore entry that pays homage to Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento as well as other Italian masters of the genre.
