After the supremely disappointing Insidious: Chapter Three, I was hoping that the sequel to The Conjuring wouldn’t go the same route, and thankfully it didn’t for the most part. It’s not as effective as the first film in many ways, but it doesn’t destroy the momentum created by the earlier film like the third entry of the Insidious saga. Early whispers about the second conjuring suggested it would be about Amityville, and while that sounded cool, Amityville has been done-to-death by this point, so I was glad to learn that, while it would be mentioned, another case of the Warrens would be the primary focus of The Conjuring 2. However you feel about the Warrens, if you’re familiar with what they do, The Conjuring 2 focuses on the Enfield Haunting, which is known in some parts as England’s Amityville.
Warner’s Blu-ray release of the film is excellent, as expected. The picture and sound quality are perfect, and we actually get a few pieces of bonus content here, which is rare for new releases these days. In addition to deleted scenes, trailers, and other little extras that have come to be expected, we also get a documentary about The Enfield Poltergeist, as well as a behind-the-scenes documentary featuring interviews with cast and crew members who were on-set for the production. If you loved this movie at the theater, I see no reason to sleep on picking the Blu-ray up. This isn’t something I see WB double-dipping on anytime soon, so buy with confidence that you won’t have to spend another twenty bucks for an extended/unrated/director’s/producer’s cut of the film at a later date. WB’s Blu-ray release of James Wan’s The Conjuring 2 is highly recommended. You may purchase a copy by clicking this link.
