Hey everyone out in the cyber-world (fuck print!), are you ready for a light, yet solid week for blu ray releases? I thought you might be! Aside from the horror/niche films that I will list after the break, there are some honorable mentions. One of the greatest animated films of all time, The Lion King, is getting a high def treatment, and it’s THE version to own. Also, Planet Earth is getting re-released in both special and limited editions; they also contain the original narration by David Attenborough (a god among men). If you love that series as much as I do, you know that David is the end-all be-all of narration. READ ON!
The cult-classic directed by the hobbit loving Peter Jackson is available for an extremely low price over at Amazon. If you love horror-comedies, this is where it all started (sort of). If you are looking for an introductory film to the horror-comedy, make this a purchase. At this low of a price, how could you go wrong? BUY!
The only Tarantino film that I have not seen! Can you believe that? I don’t have any excuse, because it has been on Netflix Instant for over a year now. I might pick it up though, because like Dead Alive, it’s at an extremely affordable price. And I call myself a fan, BAH! BUY!
The second Quentin film on this list, and probably (arguably) his best. Yea, it’s talked about far too much, and I hate seeing hipsters quoting the film left and right, but that doesn’t subtract anything substantial from this piece of cinematic beauty (whew). Not as cheap as Jackie Brown but still under $20. I don’t need to sell you on this title, just go buy it.
I had the pleasure of seeing this in Australia, with some Swedish friends of mine, and about 3 other people in the theater. I watched Scream 1-3 days before, with my girlfriend, and found myself consumed by the series. We reviewed the film on the site, which you can read here. I consider Scream (the original) to be the best meta film of all time, and one of the most intelligent horror films in the last 20 years. 2 and 3 were alright, but they didn’t measure up to the original. The 4th though, comes very close to being the best in the series and if you haven’t seen it, DO SO NOW! BUY!
With the second season about to start, AMC is trying to milk the first season for all it’s worth. The special edition contains some SWEET new artwork, and a copious amount of behind-the-scenes featurettes. Hardcore fans will no doubt buy this, but I don’t see the point of investing $35 more dollars in this season, if you already own it. You know? It is a great set though. #overdraft. BUY!
